Cherie - You're totally right about the cold water being better for the environment. I barely think about that part - but it's very true. Amazing what we take for granted. And wow - hot water now huh - big roller!!

For some unknown reason, my crazy computer isn't opening videos, but your commentary is wonderful. I think it's so important to experience the culture as it truly is - and I never thought about how simple things like showers or basic everyday life could be a way - brilliant perspective, as always. I sent in a Kiva donation for your fellowship (sorry it wasn't more!) but I hope you're doing well!

You actually get a lot of questions about bathrooms and water? Kidding.

It's funny how the simple bits of life, like taking bathing in cold water out of a bucket, that grab our attention, essentially because they are something we do every single day. But it's meaningful: simple, daily things that we take for granted have the power to reframe our daily lives and activities, to shake us out of our usual rhythms, to remind us of our humanity.

(btw, a hot shower = 1 hour of sleep. Or at least that's what I tell myself. Not sure what the cold shower equivalent is.)

Nice blog entry Sloane! Cold water is much more environmentally-friendly than using hot water because:

1) less water usage (it's too cold to stand idly under the hot water.)
2) no energy is used to heat up the water.

I'm pleased to finally have hot water after 2+ years, but I've come to realise it's a want, definitely not a need :)
